The Imperfect Series

There is no surprise that 2020 has led to self reflection and prioritization for many of us. So when I prioritized reconnecting with some childhood friends, I never imagined it would lead me here. Here! A website, a gallery, and sharing my art with the public. Our zoom meetings led us to book studies and virtual painting sessions. Both enriched us and offered catharsis and healing with each new adventure in painting that we shared together.

What I found was a great energy and a diverse design process within each of us. More profoundly, I observed beautiful works of art critiqued harshly and even thrown out. I quickly focused my instruction on accepting the flaws as character and embracing the uniqueness of the piece. Each piece of art is a part of them, part of their expression, part of their energy. I quickly realized I needed to listen to what I was teaching them.

For years I have scrutinized my own work and felt it was not ready to share with the world. It was not perfect, so how could I? So when I told them to embrace their imperfections, I decided to embrace my own, because I loved my work, and the energy and joy of painting – and, really, isn’t that perfection of a sort? Why do I need to compare myself with the masters? I need to just be me!  If my art can bring joy to others, then who am I to deprive them out of my own insecurity. After all, I enjoy the work of so many up-and-coming artists. If they were not themselves brave enough to share their work, I would have missed out on their amazing creativity and the beauty and joy that it brought to me.

Therefore, with my newfound wisdom and bravery, I decided to share my art with the world and I decided to start with works from 2020, my Imperfect Series. Each piece has a quote of inspiration on the side that is specific to that piece. A reminder that we are all human, and all perfect in our own, unique way.

Enjoy!,
